10:40pm: Burnett runs into aces
Brent Burnett had already survived a couple of all-ins but he's now out after losing a brutal one to Paul Corrigan. The former had just 35,000 and with pocket kings he was more than happy to get his chips in. Unfortunately for him Corrigan had the only hand that could beat him. The aces held up to eliminate Burnett. -- NW
10:30pm: Three-way all in dents Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche has dropped to around 50,000 after losing a three-way all-in.
The money went in pre-flop with John Angus all-in for around two big blinds, Toby Hariefeld all-in for 23,700 and Nitsche the covering stack.

10:20pm: Brown down but not out
From under-the-gun Scott Brown moved all-in for 37,800. He almost got it through uncontested but Rhys Silverstein called all-in from the small blind. It was he who was at risk as he had a stack of 26,700.

The 4♥2♠9♦2♣Q♣ board favoured the over cards, 'I wish it had come on the flop,' joked Brown, who was left with just 11,100. He got a boost on the next hand though as he received a walk. -- NW

10:05pm: Double up for Corrigan
It was a case of big blind special for Paul Corrigan who got a good price to see a flop and then made the most of it.
Dara O'Kearney raised to 3,200 from under-the-gun and picked up calls from Davie Gallagher (mid position), Brent Burnett (small blind) and Corrigan (big blind).
So it was four to a flop of 5♠6♦5♣. O'Kearney bet 5,100, Gallagher called, Burnett did likewise and Corrigan then moved all-in for 22,700 total. It took O'Kearney mere seconds to fold, and Gallagher only seconds to call. It took Burnett even less time to take the route suggested by O'Kearney.
It was cards on their backs time. Corrigan opened 8♥5♥, which was well ahead of Gallagher's 6♠4♠. The J♠ turn and T♣ river kept him in the lead and he more than doubled. It was but a scratch for Gallagher though as he's still got 137,000. -- NW

Dominik Nitsche tweeted earlier that he was going to be playing lots of hands and hopefully build a huge stack for Day 2. His VPIP stats aren't available but his stack is approaching 'huge' after a confrontation with Ryan Barnes.
The latter raised to 7,300 from mid position and the German poker star was the only caller from the cutoff. The flop spread 2♠5♥3♥ and Barnes continued for 8,000. Nitsche called before they both checked the Q♠5♣ turn and river down.
'Ace,' said a defeated sounding Barnes before opening A♠J♦. He was right to sound defeated as Nitsche opened T♦T♣ and took the pot, climbing to 174,000. -- MC

Kevin Whelan flipped well in eliminating Jack Maskill to see his stack rise to 143,000.
A player in mid position opened before Whelan three-bet and Maskill four-bet shoved. The original raiser folded but Whelan called.

9:20pm: Gaudlitz takes exit in good grace
Top marks to Marc Gaudlitz who took his exit - which was a bad beat - incredibly well. He was all-in and at risk pre-flop for around 20 big blinds with A♠K♠ and was in a dominating position against Dzmitry Ryzhyk's A♦Q♠.
The 6♣T♥7♦Q♦4♥ board gave Ryzhyk the pot. Gaudlitz said: 'have a nice evening everyone,' as he left the table. -- NW

9:05pm: McConaghy doubles through Symeonides
Poker can be a cruel game sometimes and Jonathan Symeonides was just on the end of what looks likely to be a tournament defining moment for him.
From under-the-gun Colin McConaghy moved all-in for 14,300. A couple of seats along another player tanked and folded what he later said was pocket fives and Symeonides got a count before calling from the big blind. The call was almost his entire stack, he had about 4,000 back after the call.

Symeonides: 6♠6♦
The 3♥5♦A♥4♥3♦ board left Symeonides shaking his head and McConaghy stacking his chips. Not only was he outdrawn but he very likely would've folded had there already been a call in front of him. So a double bad beat for Symeonides in the end. --NW

Rapinder Cheema was asked to get off the roller-coaster ride he's been on most of the day.
Michael Kane informed the blog that he was down to 18 big blinds when he raise-called it off with jack-ten suited. Scott Brown had three-bet him with ace-king and turned a king to seal the deal. --MC

8:20pm: Ooi takes one
Colin McConaghy got off lightly in a hand against Yew Kah Ooi as the latter played it safe on the turn and river. Pre-flop McConaghy raised to 2,300 and Ooi called from the button. The two of them took a 4♠5♣7♣ flop. McConaghy c-bet 2,700 and Ooi smooth called.
That was all the betting action as both players checked the 7♦ turn and J♦ river. Ooi showed Q♣Q♦ at showdown and it was good enough to take the pot. --NW
8:15pm: Roller-coaster ride for Cheema
Rapinder Cheema can't seem to keep hold of chips today. He builds a stack and then it drops again. Rinse and repeat. He's going to have to build again after being taken off a hand to drop to 18,000.
A player in the hijack raised and was called by Cheema (button) and Mudasser Hussain in the big blind. The flop came down 3♦T♠J♠ and the action checked to Cheema who bet 3,500. Hussain called before both players checked the 6♣ turn. The board completed with the 8♠ and Hussain led for 7,000. Cheema mucked his cards with force and sat shaking his head. Hussain, meanwhile, moved up to around 70,000. -- MC

8pm: Kyle's got style...and chips
Kyle Maguire looks to be the current chip leader. He's got an impressive stack of 150,000 in front of him. That's more than three times the current average which is 45,600. -- NW
7:50pm: Kane drops some
Michael Kane, who's fuelled up with Nandos (other spicy chicken outlets available), has dropped some chips since returning from dinner break. He just ran into ace-king and dropped to 21,500.
Michael Mcgee opened from the cutoff and Kane peeled from the big blind to see a 7♦K♠T♦ flop appear. McGee continued for 1,800 and Kane check-called to the J♣ turn where he faced a 4,900 bet. Kane called again before both players checked the 8♠ river. Before Kane had the chance to open, Mcgee showed A♦K♣ and Kane mucked. Mcgee saw his stack rise to around 65,000.

7:35pm: Ng takes down first event of the festival
Whilst the Main Event won't finish until Sunday, there's already been one champion crowned here in Edinburgh. A £150 six-max NLHE turbo kicked off the festival last night and it attracted a total of 53 runners. When all was done and dusted Stephen Ng reigned supreme, taking the title, trophy and £2,431. Seven players got paid including Gordon Huntly and UKIPT4 Edinburgh champion Dean Hutchison.

7:25pm: Kennedy gets one through
Little action of note to report but Dennis Kennedy just got a shove through not one, not two, but three opponents.
In the hand in question there was a raise from under-the-gun. Rhys Silverstein smooth called from the cut off, and the small blind came along too. Kennedy then shoved for 19,200 from the big blind.
He didn't have to sweat too hard as all his opponent's folded their cards fairly swiftly. -- NW

7:10pm: Nice turn of events for Cheema
UKIPT5 champion Rapinder Cheema has reached the dizzying heights of 48,000 after he eliminated Sunil Moti in a hand that could hardly have gone any better for him.
He raised to 2,500 from the hijack and Moti was the only caller from the small blind. The flop fell Q♣A♦A♣ and both players checked to the J♣ turn. Moti led for 2,500 there, and for 2,500 on the 2♥ river. Cheema called the first bet and then set Moti all in for his last 12,000 on the river. Moti double-fist called, stood up and tabled A♥9♣ for trip aces. It wasn't good though as Cheema opened J♠J♦ for a turned full house. He took the pot along with the scalp. -- MC
